Dune
I really can't say enough about these books. The story spans tens of thousands
of years covering human life in the very distant future after we've populated
many star systems throughout the galaxy.
Some may think that what is written in these books is ridiculous fantasy,
but if one sits and considers things for a while it's not too far fetched to see
things like this happening in the very distant future.
Take, for example,
the spice, "Melange"... over the last 100 years on a single planet we
have discovered some amazing and incredible substances. So is it therefore a great
leap to consider that in the next ten thousand years we will find substances far
more amazing and incredible - especially as we move out into the galaxy and explore
new worlds with all their strange and exotic fauna and flora and the substances
they produce? And is it really so far fetched to think that amongst the substances
that will be discovered in our ever expanding universe that at least one of those
substances will have the power to extend human life to 4 centuries or more, or
that they will give us the ability to see into the future or do any of the other
things Melange is capable of?
I think not. We're only just beginning
to learn what's possible.
So read these books with an open mind as to
our future as we move out into the galaxy with our ever more intelligent and self
aware machines and computers to accompany us.
Enjoy!
